Theatre Klagenfurt: The choice is yours
Klagenfurt is a city of theatre. The Klagenfurt Municipal Theatre with its internationally renowned stage, the Klagenfurt Ensemble and numerous other venues such as the Klagenfurt Art Nouveau Theatre and the Kammerlichtspiele are proof of this. There is also plenty on offer for the little ones, such as the fairytale theatre. This makes the city the ideal place to experience culture and enjoy a wonderful short holiday at the same time.
Klagenfurt City Theatre
A visit to the Klagenfurt City Theatre is a special experience. Located in Carinthia, Austria, it is the southernmost theatre in the German-speaking world. Founded in the 17th century as a ballroom for the aristocracy, the building was gradually converted into a theatre. Today’s theatre building dates back to 1811 and impresses with its Art Nouveau elements. It was remodelled and extended in the 1960s and 1990s. In addition to operas, operettas and ballets, the theatre also stages plays and musicals.
Today, visitors can expect great performances such as Romeo and Juliet, Götterdämmerung and Die Fledermaus. There is also plenty on offer for children and young people, for example Alice in Wonderland, The Little Prince and Magic Worlds. International artists also give guest performances at Klagenfurt City Theatre, such as the SNG Opera in balet Ljubljana. The current artistic director is Aron Stiehl.
