Sustainability at Sandwirth: Awarded the Austrian Ecolabel for Tourism!
The Sandwirth was the first hotel in Klagenfurt to be awarded the Austrian Ecolabel for Tourism. The renowned government seal of quality for environmentally friendly business and social responsibility is more than just an award. It is proof of responsible behaviour in dealing with the environment and the future – from the roof to the plate. And it is a promise: Our guests can continue to count on regionality, quality and sustainability in the future. What specific measures are we taking on the subject of sustainability?
Showers and baths
Large amounts of energy are required to heat water in a hotel. We rely on the most sustainable and efficient option here – namely solar energy. Thanks to 110m² of solar panels on the roof, our guests shower with CO2-free water! Our showers also have a small attachment – the Ecoturbino – which saves an additional 36% of water and energy without any loss of comfort.
Energy requirements
Energy monitoring has become an indispensable tool for us to monitor, analyse and optimise our energy consumption. By continuously recording energy consumption data, potential energy wastage can be identified and appropriate measures taken. We also use energy-efficient LED lighting throughout the building.
Digitalisation
We are constantly striving to digitalise processes and implement resource-saving measures for a paperless future. Instead of printed documents and forms, we are increasingly focussing on digital solutions.
Use of food
Respectful handling of food is particularly important to us at Sandwirth. Our guests can look forward to creative slow food dishes that are prepared with great attention to detail. We focus on using regional and seasonal ingredients, which avoids long transport routes and protects the climate.
At our own farm in the Lavanttal valley, we keep our own grazing pigs and process them into delicious delicatessen products. Our kitchen team conjures up delicious syrups, vinegars and spreads using fresh herbs from our own garden and seasonal fruit and vegetables from local farmers.
Avoiding food waste also plays a major role for us. For example, we are a partner of the ‘Too Good To Go’ initiative. To save food and avoid having to throw it away, you can buy our breakfast bags here at a bargain price.
Getting around
With our in-house Sandwirth e-bikes and our e-car for hire, our guests can explore the surrounding area in an environmentally friendly and comfortable way. We also offer our guests sustainable mobility concepts when travelling to the hotel, such as the Carinthia Last Mile Service, a low-cost train station shuttle or free use of local trains through Carinthia with the Wörthersee Plus Card.
Room cleaning
We are also committed to sustainability when it comes to room cleaning and only use environmentally friendly cleaning products. If guests choose not to have their rooms cleaned daily, we thank them with a discount voucher for our restaurant.
